What does LGBTQIA+ mean?

It is an ever-evolving acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual. The diversity of sexual identities and genders is represented through the plus symbol. As time goes on, a continual understanding of the nuanced nature of identities is crucial to further support and validate all humans during their journey of self-discovery. Many from the community suffer discrimination, rejection, harassment, and even violence that can directly affect their mental health problems. According to Mental Health America, "research suggests that LGBTQ+ individuals face health disparities linked to societal stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights." At The Lotus Wellness Building, all providers strongly believe in creating spaces to listen, learn, and validate all LGBTQIA+ patients. Opening conversation on queer experiences can aid in normalizing individuals that identify as LGBTQIA+. Doing so can point to acceptance, community growth, social support, and especially empowerment.

What should clients expect?

The Lotus Wellness Building, built in 1923 and located in central Grand Junction, serves as a safe sanctuary and welcoming environment, fostering genuine relationships with all clients on their mental health journey.
